SWCD APPROVES $20,000FOR 2018 COVER CROPS
The Fulton County Soil & Water Conservation District(SWCD) recently approved a total of $20,000 in cost share incentives for cover crops planted in summer and fall 2018. This program is funded through the Clean Water Indiana Program. Incentives will be paid on cover crops planted in Fulton County at $10 per acre up to 50 acres with 50% match from the grower ($500 maximum payment). New this year: participants in the Lake Manitou Watershed will qualify for reimbursement of 50% of their costs at $20.00 per acre up to 50 acres ($1,000 maximum payment). The Lake Manitou Watershed payment has been doubled to increase cover crops in the watershed therefore reducing nutrients and sediments from entering the lake. Funds are paid in arrears and copies of receipts and seed tags must be turned in to your local SWCD for reimbursement. Allocation of Clean Water Indiana funds are determined through a competitive process. SWCD Board members will rank all applications based on chosen criteria and applications will befunded until all funding is depleted for the calendar year. Please note that funds are limited, and enrollment acreage maximums apply. If you are interested in cover crop funding through the Clean Water Indiana program, please complete an application and submit to your local SWCD office with a copy of your field map(s). For questions, call the SWCD at (574) 223-3220 ext. 3.
