FULTON COUNTY SWCD VISITS STATEHOUSE
Fulton County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) Supervisors Matt Harsh and Dustin Zellers and Associate Supervisor Steve Metzger visited the Indiana State House on February 9th for a legislative tour. The trio had the opportunity to meet with Senator Randy Head and Representatives Bill Friend and Doug Gutwein. The tour was arranged by Jennifer Boyle Warner from the Indiana Association of Conservation Districts (IASWCD). Cresswell Hizer, a native of Kewanna and lobbyist for IASWCD walked the supervisors through the legislative process. Supervisors were advocating for an increase in funding for the Clean Water Indiana program. The House Ways and Means committee was taking public testimony on HB 1001 (budget bill), so Matt provided testimony to this committee advocating for an increase in funding for the Clean Water Indian program and how this program has a positive impact on the landowners in Fulton County. The Clean Water Indiana program provides financial and administrative assistance to the 92 Soil and Water Conservation Districts in Indiana. Funding in Fulton County has been used for district operations, cover crop cost share, manure testing and education.
